Project Summary

Walsh Engineers has designed mechanical and plumbing systems in various locations:

  • Chiller Replacement Study. This project was the study of the size and capacity of the existing chiller at Genoptix. The existing 150-ton chiller is operating with R-22 refrigerant. Walsh Engineers performed calculations and energy analyzes, and created a report with current conditions and outline recommendations for a replacement size and high efficiency model chiller(s) and chiller specifications and model.
  • CTCE South Lab. This project consisted of the revision and upgrade of existing HVAC systems in Tissue Culture, Positive Pressure 1501 and 1502, North and South Hallways, PCR 1800, Template Free 1801, General Lab 1802, Nucleic Acid 1803, Post Amp 1804, and Alcove 1805 totaling approximately 7,400 square feet.
  • Lab Tenant Improvement. Walsh Engineers provided engineering services for this 40,000 square feet tenant improvement project, of which 30 percent was for lab use. This was a build out project of an existing building, which included improvements to the offices (private and open cubicle), conference rooms, electrical and IT rooms, general office and administrative support areas, restrooms and showers and the lab.  All previously existing mechanical and plumbing systems were removed to bring the building back to shell condition. General plumbing was provided throughout, with lab plumbing consisting of a design which included a new compressed air, vacuum, DI water, and CO2 systems.
  • Biopharma. Provided mechanical engineering and design for the expansion of a lab space of approximately 4,800 square feet. The expansion included revisions to the general floor plan of several labs, the expansion of others, and the construction of new lab space and lab personnel offices. The floor plan included revisions and additions in the following labs: Accessioning, Nucleic Acid Isolation, PCR, Post Amp, Tissue Culture and Positive Pressure Rooms. Walsh Engineers provided the design for existing HVAC and Plumbing system with maximum re-use of existing systems.
  • GMP Lab. Walsh Engineers provided mechanical design services for the air conditioning system of an existing lab space of approximately 4,000 square feet. The lab space included Quality Control, Post Amp/PCR, Sample Prep, Reagent Prep/Pre-Amp, Manufacturing, Tissue Culture and Quarantine. The design was based on re-using an existing 100 percent outside air constant volume air handler with remote condensing unit to provide single pass air to the lab spaces.  The lab space was designed to be a Class 100,000 Clean Room. The HVAC system design included the central air handling systems, exhaust system, heating hot water system, air distribution, and control systems. The process piping and plumbing design included compressed air systems, lab vacuum system, deionized water system, compressed gas system, domestic and industrial water heating systems, sanitary sewer system and plumbing fixtures.
  • Clia Molecular Lab. This project consisted of the mechanical engineering and design for the Clia Molecular Lab that replaced the existing lab office area of approximately 2,600 square feet.  Walsh Engineers designed the plumbing and the HVAC and analyzed existing chiller and air handling systems and coordinated with the plumbing and mechanical subcontractor and assisted in developing phased construction plan to allow existing lab function to continue with minimal shut down.
  • Faraday Lab. This project consisted of the mechanical engineering and design for the build out of an existing building approximately 40,000 square feet that included private office, open cubicle space, conference rooms, break rooms, electrical and IT rooms, general office and administrative support areas, restrooms and showers, and laboratories in 30% of the total space.
